It’s time for Des Moines County’s Rural Cleanup.
Now through December 9th, or until the funds are gone, a whole list of items will be accepted at the landfill at no charge. You must be able to show proof of residency.
Items should be separated into three categories.
The first category is metal items, such as lawn mowers, bikes, tin roofing, metal cabinets, bed springs & rails, swing sets, and metal fencing.
The second category is household items, such as sofas, mattresses, clothing, rugs, carpet, tables, and toys.
The third category is tires. This includes car tires, light truck tires, and heavy duty truck tires. There is a limit of 10 tires per household.
Electronic equipment such as computer monitors and TV’s are banned from the landfill and should be taken to the Haz-Chem Center at the landfill by appointment- but there is a fee for those items.
Other items not included for free are tractor tires, auto parts, lumber, demolition material, and garbage. Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, and air conditioners will be accepted for this cleanup only at the recycling center.
