Vernon Floyd Muntz died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Great River Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa.  He was born August 30, 1922 at Farmington, Iowa the son of Earl Otto and Olive Watts Muntz.  On January 9, 1947 he married Charlotte Louise Smith in San Diego, California. 

     Vernon served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.  He was a Machinist Tool & Die maker.  He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

     Vernon was a graduate of Le Tourneau University receiving a bachelor’s degree as a tool maker.  He was employed in various factories in Burlington, Iowa and retired from General Electric in 1987.  During retirement years, he and his family traveled to national parks, museums and took tours in Mexico, Canada and went on many cruises.

     Survivors include his wife Charlotte of Burlington, one son Randy Muntz also of Burlington; one sister Pauline Varner of Ft. Madison, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. 

     He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Arvella Muntz and Maxine Kerr, one brother, Melvin Muntz and an infant son, Dennis.

     Funeral Services will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.  Pastor Terry Vance will officiate.  Interment will be in Sharon Cemetery, Lee County, Iowa.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Edward J. Hayes, 83, Fort Madison died Wednesday December 4th at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

He is survived by four brothers and four sisters: William (wife Joy) Hayes, of Keokuk, Iowa; Betty Smith, of Donnellson, Iowa; Leatha (husband Bill) Crom, of Fort Madison, Iowa; Loretta Hayes, of Donnellson, Iowa; John (wife Linda) Hayes, of Montrose, Iowa; Carl (wife Sharon) Hayes Jr., of Donnellson, Iowa; Tom (wife Barb) Hayes, of Donnellson, Iowa; and Donna (husband Glen) Myers, of Keokuk, Iowa; one uncle Bob Allen, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Orval Hayes.

His body has been cremated.  His family will greet friends from 5 – 7 pm Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Montrose Church of the Nazarene, 501 Main Street, Montrose, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Montrose_Ch.urch of the Nazarene, IVlontrose, Iowa, with,.Re,verend John Hayes, Reverend William Hayes, and Reverend Preston Smith, officiatin . Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison.

Peryl Lorraine Kress, 98 years, of West Point, Iowa, formerly Niota, Illinois died 12:45 am Thursday December 5, 2013 at the West Point Care Center, West Point, Iowa. She was born September 29, 1915 at Niota, Illinois, a daughter of William Earl and Sylvia Myrtle (Wilson) Kress. She worked at Sheaffer Pen Co. as an inspector in metal fabrication, but spent most of her time doing clerical work for the plating department. She retired in 1980 after 41 years of service. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Carthage, Illinois. She enjoyed traveling, reading, calligraphy, writing poetry and painting pictures. After retiring she made book marks for all occasions and sent them to family and friends all over the U.S. and Canada. She was a member of the Appanoose Faith Presbyterian Church in Niota, Illinois.

 

She is survived by one niece, Kenna Richards, of Berkley, California and three nephews: MarkClemens, of West Point, Iowa, Randy Clemens, of West Point, Iowa, Kurt Kress, of Burlington,Iowa, four great nieces, four great nephews and two great great nieces. She was preceded indeath by her parents, one brother, William J. Kress, two sisters: Bonnie Richards and Georgia Clemens and three nephews, Ray Kress, John Richards and Lane Kress.

 

Per her wishes, the body will be cremated. Family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am Tuesday December 10, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday December 10, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Dave Poland officiating. Burial will be held at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa at a later date. A memorial has been established for the Appanoose Faith Presbyterian Church, Nauvoo Fire Department or the Nauvoo Presbyterian Church, contributions may be made at the funeral home.
