THE BURLINGTON CITY COUNCIL MEETS TONITE(MON) AND WILL SET A DATE FOR TWO PUBLIC HEARINGS…BOTH ON JANUARY 6TH —

ONE ON BEHALF OF HOPE HAVEN, WHICH IS SEEKING (FOR A SECOND TIME) SOME FEDERAL GRANT MONEY TO BUY THE VACANT LOT AT 617 JEFFERSON STREET AND BUILD A NEW “HOPEFULLY YOURS” THRIFT STORE, CURRENTLY AT VALLEY AND 5TH. THE SECOND HEARING NEXT MONTH WILL BE ON SOME CHANGES TO THE CITY’S TREE ORDINANCE, NECESSITATED BY THE PRESENCE OF EMERALD ASH BORERS…WHICH WILL REQUIRE TREATMENT AND, IN MOST CASES, REMOVAL OF ENTIRE ASH TREES. TONITE’(MON) MEETING IS AT 6:30 ON THE THIRD FLOOR OF CITY HALL AND THE PUBLIC IS WELCOME TO ATTEND. (THE COUNCIL ALSO SETS ASIDE A TIME TOWARD THE END OF EACH REGULAR MEETING FOR COMMENTS FROM THE AUDIENCE.)

 

THE WEST BURLINGTON SCHOOL BOARD MEETS THIS(MON) EVENING AT 5 AND WILL TALK MORE ABOUT THE FEASIBILITY OF HIRING A SCHOOL RESOURCE (POLICE) OFFICER. MEMBERS WILL ALSO DISCUSS SOME ALTERNATIVES TO THE PROPOSED NEW POSITION, INCLUDING A CONCEPT CALLED “RESTORATIVE DISCIPLINE.” THE WEST BURLINGTON SCHOOL BOARD MEETS IN ITS HEADQUARTERS AT 607 RAMSEY STREET.
