Nothing New on the DMCo Atty. Office Front

DES MOINES COUNTY BOARD CHAIRMAN TOM BROEKER ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK THAT HE HOPED TO HAVE SOME NEWS THIS WEEK ABOUT THE SEARCH FOR A NEW, SAFER SPACE FOR THE COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE.

WHAT HE SAID YESTERDAY(TUE) MORNING WAS THAT HE HAS NOTHING TO REPORT.  IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SUPERVISORS’ WEEKLY MEETING, COUNTY ATTORNEY PAT JACKSON TOOK A GROUP OF REPORTERS ON A TOUR OF HIS OFFICES AT THE BURLINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT BUILDING…A BUILDING WHOSE THIRD FLOOR (WHERE JACKSON’S DEPARTMENT IS HOUSED) IS BOWED(LIKE LOAD) AND GRADUALLY PULLING FURTHER AND FURTHER AWAY FROM THE WALLS.

MEANWHILE, GOOD NEWS FOR BURLINGTON AND DES MOINES COUNTY’S CITY-COUNTY HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN, AT LEAST FOR NOW.   COUNTY BOARD CHAIRMAN TOM BROEKER TOLD HIS FELLOW SUPERVISORS YESTERDAY THAT THE SMALLER MEMBERS CAN KEEP THEIR HEALTH-CARE COVERAGE FOR ANOTHER YEAR.   C-P-A ASSOCIATES RECENTLY DID AN AUDIT ON THE CITY-COUNTY HEALTH CARE PLAN AND IT SHOWED OPERATING CASH RECEIPTS OF JUST OVER 6-MILLION-110-THOUSAND DOLLARS AND OPERATING EXPENSES OF JUST UNDER 6-MILLION-100-THOUSAND. THE PLAN HAD NON-OPERATING CASH RECEIPTS OF 610 DOLLARS.

ON A DIFFERENT FRONT, SUPERVISORS AGREED…INFORMALLY…TO BEGIN THEIR BUDGET HEARINGS JANUARY 13TH.
