Mother Nature Hits Listening Area Hard

THEY SAID IT WOULD SNOW AND THEY WERE RIGHT…3 TO 6 INCHES IN SOUTHEAST IOWA, WEST-CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND NORTHEAST MISSOURI…A BIT MORE IN SOME PLACES, A LITTLE LESS IN OTHERS.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 O’CLOCK TONITE(SUN)…AND THE CITY OF BURLINGTON’S AUTOMATIC PARKING PROHIBITION WENT INTO EFFECT AT 10 O’CLOCK LAST(SAT) NITE.

BUT THE REAL DANGER IN ADDITION TO THE BLOWING & DRIFTING SNOW…THE LIMITED VISIBILITY AND THE SLICK ROADS…IS THE WIND CHILL INDEX:  READINGS OF 30 TO 45 BELOW ZERO ARE LIKELY FROM NOON TODAY(SUN) UNTIL AROUND NOON TUESDAY…AND THAT MEANS FROSTBITE IS POSSIBLE WITHIN 5 TO 10 MINUTES…HYPOTHERMIA AFTER THAT…AND THE POSSIBILITY OF DEATH, IF YOU DON’T TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS — DRESS WARMLY AND IN LAYERS, KEEPING YOUR HEAD, HANDS AND FEET WARM…EAT WELL AND DRINK LOTS OF WATER…AVOID ALCOHOL IF YOU HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE…KEEP EXTRA MEDICATION IN THE HOUSE…BE SURE YOUR FURNACE AND SPACE HEATERS ARE OPERATING PROPERLY…AND DON’T PLAN ON SHOVELING THE SNOW UNTIL THE WIND DIES DOWN AND IT WARMS UP.

AS ALWAYS, CALL 911 IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY.
