Obituaries Thursday January 9th

Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Hawk, age 84 of rural Stronghurst, Illinois, died at 6:40 a.m.Tuesday January 7, 2014 at her home. She was born July 9, 1929 near Nokomis, Illinois, the daughter of John Wesley and Marguerite Thacker Flannigan. On February 15, 1953, she married Clarence Junior Hawk in Mulberry Grove, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2007.

Betty was a graduate of Taylorville, Illinois High School. She had lived in Roseville, Illinois from 1953 to 1959, and from 1959 until present, lived on the family farm near Raritan, Illinois. She loved gardening, crafts, old country music, solving crossword puzzles, and her African Violets.

Survivors include two daughters- Linda Oliver of Mediapolis, IA., Jane Hawk of Burlington, IA., three sons- Larry (Kathy) Hawk of Chaska, MN., Jim (Anita) Hawk of Stronghurst, Tony (Melissa) Hawk of Gladstone, IL., fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, one sister- Mary (Glenn) Fudge of Taylorville, IL., and one brother- Earl Flannigan, also of Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother- Pearl Flannigan.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Hawk will be held at 10:30 a.m.Saturday January 11, 2014 at Banks & Beals with Rev. Kendall Hetrick officiating. Burial will be in the StronghurstCemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com.

The funeral service for Mrs. Fern Oetken Helt, 95, of Mt.Pleasant and New London, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, New London.

Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and the family will receive friends one hour before the service.  Funeral procession will leave for AspenGroveCemetery, Burlington at 1:30 following a meal at the New LondonUnitedMethodistChurch.  Memorials have been established for the New LondonUnitedMethodistChurch and Hope Haven.
