W.B. Taxable Value Rises; TIF Release Credited

WEST BURLINGTON’S TOBACCO OUTLETS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT THIS MONTH.

POLICE CHIEF FRANK NEWBERRY ANNOUNCED LAST(WED) NITE THAT HIS DEPARTMENT WILL BE DOING COMPLIANCE CHECKS, TO SEE IF ANY STORES ARE SELLING TO MINORS…AND TO TICKET ANYONE WHO IS. NEWBERRY ALSO SAID HIS OFFICERS WILL BE TAKING MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING NEXT MONTH AND IN MARCH.

ON OTHER FRONTS, MAYOR HANS TROUSIL TOLD THE CITY COUNCIL THAT WEST BURLINGTON’S PROPERTY VALUATION HAS GONE UP MORE THAN 20-MILLION DOLLARS THIS YEAR, DUE PRIMARILY TO THE RELEASE OF SOME FORMER TAX INCREMENT FINANCE DISTRICT…OR “TIF”…PROPERTY. IT’S GOOD NEWS FOR OTHER LOCAL TAXING BODIES, WHO CAN GENERATE MORE PROPERTY-TAX REVENUE FROM THE PREVIOUSLY-UNAVAILABLE PROPERTIES.

AND IN ONE OTHER PIECE OF BUSINESS, PROGRESS ON THE CITY’S NEW PUBLIC WORKS BUILDING IS A LITTLE FASTER THAN IT WAS A FEW WEEKS AGO…..
