Obituaries Monday January 13th

Anthony Dale Sturek, 23, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 2:02 PMSaturday, January 11, 2014 at his mother’s home in Blandinsville, IL. He was born on September 11, 1990 in Aurora, IL, the son of Rick and Stacey Hughes Sturek.

Anthony was a 2009 graduate of IlliniWestHigh School. He attended CarlSandburgCollege where he received his CNA Certificate. Mr. Sturek worked at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, and later, at the Bickford House in Burlington. He also provided in-home health care. He enjoyed watching movies. Anthony was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Trinity of Lomax, IL, his mother, Stacey Sturek of Blandinsville, his father, Rick Sturek of LaHarpe, grandparents Roger and Linda Hughes of LaHarpe, 2 brothers Cortez Sturek and Duke Sturek both of LaHarpe, 4 sisters, Danielle Sirtak, Maggie Glant, Tiffany Sturek and Mikala Sturek all of LaHarpe.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Shirley Sturek Sr.

Services for Anthony will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with Nate McCarter officiating. Burial will be at the LaHarpeCemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 PM on Tuesday, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established. Dora Alene Timmerman, 92, Bettendorf, died peacefully Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at the Bettendorf Health Care Center.  Ms. Timmerman was born Jan. 20, 1921 in Toolesboro, IA, the daughter of Joseph S. and Sarah J. Wheeler Brown.  She married Alden Timmerman and had two sons, Richard and Russell Timmerman.  Anyone who knew Dora, knew she worked hard and she loved to cook.  After retiring from Bendix, she spent time cooking in a restaurant and on the tow boats.  She and her twin sister Cora could put on quite a spread at any family reunion, holiday gathering or church event.  Dora will always be remembered as the ultimate care-giver, dedicated and strong.  She is preceded in death by her parents; Alden Timmerman; brothers Elias Brown, Guy Brown and Bert Brown; sisters Cora Bowdre and Nellie Venard; daughter-in-law Sharon Timmerman; and son Russell.  She is survived by her son Richard Timmerman of Wapello; daughter-in-law Gail Timmerman of Bettendorf; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

 

The graveside service for Dora Timmerman will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Parsons Cemetery, rural Wapello, with Pastor Judy Kelly officiating.  Family and friends may gather from 10:00 to 10:45 AM at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello for viewing prior to going to the cemetery.

 

A lunch will be provided at the Solid Rock Baptist Church following the graveside service.

Elwood Lamar ‘Butch’ Burger, age 72, of Wapello, lost his battle with cancer Saturday afternoon, January 11, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  The son of Elwood Burger, Sr. and Mary Weikel, he was born on July 8, 1941 in Ashland, Pennsylvania.  He married Ann Deitzel in 1958.  Having come to Wapello in 1980, he met Patricia Fuller and they were married on October 11, 2002 in Wapello.

Butch began working for Tri State Envelope in July of 1967 in Pennsylvania and came as Plant Manager to the new Wapello plant in 1980.

He enjoyed camping, traveling, especially cruises, woodworking, and craft shows.

His family includes his wife, Pat; a daughter, Ann Marie Schoeffler of Ashland, Pennsylvania; two sons, James Burger of Ashland and David Burger of Bloomberg, Pennsylvania; a step daughter, Sandra Durden of Great Falls, Montana; two sisters, Mary Ann Nowark & Clay Nemire of Johnson City, New York and Susan Brown of Ashland, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Arlene Schuler; and an infant brother Clarence Leroy.

The funeral ceremony for Butch Burger will be held at 11:15 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Pam Kranzler officiating.  Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit and the Great River Hospice.
