24-year-old From Minnesota Opens Frozen Yogurt Shop in Burlington

It looks and tastes like ice cream, but it’s better for you.

That’s what you’ll find at the new Sassy Strawberry frozen yogurt shop in Burlington.

Ashley Kuper started out as a nurse, wasn’t crazy about working nights, and became an entrepreneur when she opened a frozen yogurt shop. She’s now brought her idea from Austin, Minnesota to Burlington, Iowa.

The business opened it’s doors the first week in January and according to Kuper, the 24-year-old owner, they’ve been so busy that they ran out of some yogurt flavors last Saturday…

“They ran out of 16 of the 18 flavors because they were that busy. It was crazy. I went down Monday with a bunch of yogurt from our Austin store. Then we also stopped in Cedar Falls and bought out all the yogurt from a shop there, just so they could get through Monday. They get shipments Tuesdays and Fridays.”

Manager of the Burlington store, Hailey Jones, says there have been lines to the door.

If one of your new years resolutions is to lose weight, Kuper says even though there are fun toppings like butterfingers, they carry healthier options as well…

“We have no fat, no sugar options. We also have a sorbet that is non-dairy for people who can’t have dairy products.”

The Burlington Sassy Strawberry is one of three locations in the country. The other two are located in Waterloo, Iowa and Austin, Minnesota.

The Sassy Strawberry is open Monday through Thursday 11am-9pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am-10pm, and Sundays from noon to 9pm. The store is located at 1035 Lawrence Ave #108.
