IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A trial is scheduled today(Tues) in a lawsuit seeking to prevent a Girl Scouts group from selling four eastern Iowa camps without the approval of its members.
The trial in Davenport will highlight a debate that has roiled local Girl Scouts organizations across the country as they to sell aging campsites.
The dispute dates to last year, when the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois considered a plan to sell Camp Conestoga near Davenport, Camp Little Cloud near Dubuque, Camp L-Kee-Ta near Danville, and Camp Tahigwa near Decorah. The group eventually shelved the plan amid criticism, but a legal challenge has moved forward.
Five members are seeking an order declaring that the council must call a vote of its membership before camps could be sold in the future.
