Robert Lee (Bob) Ivins, age 93 of Morning Sun, died Saturday January 25, 2014 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  The son of Charles C. and Lillie (Bentzinger) Ivins, he was born December 12, 1920 on a farm near Donnellson, Iowa.  On June 8, 1947 he married Shirley Winblad in Burlington; she died in 2000. He worked for the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in 1936. He served in the US Army during W.W. II, stationed in Australia, New Guinea, and Philippines.  He also served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Iowa Southern Utilities for 43 years as a district lineman.  He served on the Morning Sun city council.

Bob enjoyed dancing, gambling, blue grass music, history, listening to the radio and watching Jeopardy.  He loved animals of all types and in particular cats and dogs.  He always enjoyed a good joke or two.  His attributes would be helping others, sense of humor, generosity, kindness and humility. Remember Bob by this:  Matthew 7:12 “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.”

Survivors include:  one daughter Bonnie Galbraith of Hiawatha, Iowa; two sons, William (Bill) and Mary Ivins of Mediapolis; Tim Ivins of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jessica (Galbraith) and Ben Vierling, North Liberty; Tom Galbraith of Indianapolis, Indiana; Ryan Galbraith of Denver, CO.; Emily (Ivins) and Mike Buck of Mediapolis; great grandchildren, Travis and Dillon Vierling of North Liberty;  nieces, nephews and cousins; his companion of 9 years, Betty Ruble of Morning Sun; special friends, Angie Smith, Lisa Skrukrud, Jim Ruble, Samantha Smith, Jordon Kinsley, Ashly Skrukrud, and his special loving pet, Libby Lou.

Cremation has been accorded.  A memorial service and burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun will be at a later date.  A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Human Society.  Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun is assisting the family with arrangements. Marilyn Ann Stout, 78, of Burlington, died at 6:00 PM Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, TX.

 

Born May 10, 1935, in Galesburg, IL, she was the daughter of George and Ruby Rose Tobias.  On February 13, 1964, she married Howard V. Stout in Monmouth, IL.

 

During her school years she was an accomplished tap dancer and performed in many school musicals. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1953.

 

Marilyn’s hobbies were bowling, golf and country dancing with Howard, but most of all she was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker.

 

Survivors include husband, of Burlington,  four sons, Jay Kreps, Kyler Kreps, Chad Kreps all of Dallas, TX, and Neal Stout of Irving, TX,; one step-son, Robert Stout of Columbus Junction; one step-daughter, Debbie (Stout) Pytel of Columbus Junction; one brother, Robert Tobias of Duluth, MN and several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, February 3, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Stout will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Trevor Davis officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.

Christine A. Zimmerman, 64, of DallasCity passed away at 8:17 P.M.Saturday, January 26, 2014 at her home.

She was born March 1, 1949 in Burlington, IA, the daughter of George F. And Thelma C. “Tommy” Barker Clifton.

Christine was a 1967 graduate of the DallasCityHigh School. She worked as a CNA in home health care, working for Mobile Nursing of Ft. Madison. She also worked for the New LondonCareCenter, DanvilleCareCenter and most recently at the Gilpin Home in DallasCity. Chris Enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of ABATE of Illinois. She also liked training horses as well as barrel racing.

Ms. Zimmerman is survived by her special friend and companion, Keith Martens, two daughters, Tonya (Chip) Chance of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Wendy Prough of Dallas City, three grandchildren, Mark Krugle of Wever, IA, Chad Krugle of Burlington, and Justin Prough of Mt. Pleasant, and one brother, Mitchell Clifton of Carrollton, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and twin infant brothers, Michael and Mark Clifton.

Christine donated her body to the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. There will be a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 beginning at 3:00 P.M. at Ikes Riverfront Tavern in DallasCity. Hugh Alfred Oriano passed away on January 24, 2014 with family and devoted dog by his side at his son’s home in Riverside, Iowa.

 

Mr. Oriano was born on July 5, 1939 in Monmouth, Illinois, to Alfred (Fred) A. Oriano and Virginia R. Zenzen, who passed away when Hugh was 10 months old.  Hugh was raised by his father and stepmother, Eva (Price) Oriano.  Hugh has one sibling:  Richard P. (Martha) Oriano.

 

Mr. Oriano married Sarah (Francis) Oriano on August 13, 1960 at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Burlington, Iowa.

 

Hugh has two children, Anthony C. (Julie) Oriano (Riverside, IA) and Angela (Larry) Oriano-Darnall (Austin, TX).  He has five grandsons:  Nash, Noah and Nicolas Oriano; and Christian and Gabriel Darnall.  Mr. Oriano was preceded in death only by his parents.

 

His primary residence as a young man was in Dallas City, Illinois.  Hugh moved with his family to Burlington, Iowa in January 1972 and lived there until the last few months of his life when he moved to Riverside.

 

Mr. Oriano was a journeyman carpenter. Hugh spent most of his professional life working as an industrial engineer and designer.  For many years he was able to travel across the Unites States and internationally, which was a great source of inspiration and happiness-especially when his family was able to accompany him.  After retiring, Hugh produced master-crafted furniture for his family.  He also loved spending time with his grandsons, especially taking them fishing and slipping them money behind their parents’ back.

 

Hugh was a Master Mason being a member of the Des Moines Lodge #1.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM Monday, January 27, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The Masonic Service and Celebration of Life for Mr. Oriano will be 6:00 PM Monday, January 27, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with a time for family and friends to share memories of Hugh during the Celebration of Life. Following the service, the family invites friends to join as they continue Hugh’s Celebration of Life at Big Muddy’s.  Private family burial will be in Carman Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been established in Hugh’s name at Southeastern Community College.  Donations can be made directly to the SCC Foundation.

Donna Mae Struck, 71, of Burlington, formerly of Davenport, died at 5:35 PM Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington .

 

Born February 3, 1942, in Chula Vista, CA, she was the daughter of Wallace Brooks and Wilma Luella Stapp Lee. On April 8, 1961, she married Walter Otto Struck, Jr. in Rock Island, IL.  He died June 20, 2009.

 

Donna decorated cakes and worked as a clerk.  She was mostly a homemaker taking care of her five children.

 

She was a 1960 graduate of Rocky High School in Rock Island, IL

 

She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gambling and shopping trips with her friend Jean Logan.

 

Survivors include two sons, Jeffery (Peggy) Struck and Randy Struck both of Davenport, IA; three daughter, Tracy Fanning, Wendy Struck, and Kristy Struck all of Davenport;  nine grandchildren, Jeffery, Mary, Shannon, Bobby, Shawn, Ryan, Michael, Phillip Searcy, and Payton Searcy;, five great grandchildren, Shawna Brasch, Ralph Brasch, Brett, Kindi, and Kinleigh; two brothers, Robert (Roberta) Lee of West Burlington, and Bill Lee of Seattle, WA; several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her mother.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Karen Gilbert, 67, of Denmark, died at 12:15 pm Sunday, January 26, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  Arrangements are pending at the Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.

Tim Bailey, 92, of New London, died Friday, January 24, 2014 at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 28, at CalvaryBaptistChurch, Mt.Pleasant.  Pastor Mike Hess will officiate.  Inurnment will be held at a later date.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  A memorial has been established to SunriseTerraceCareCenter, Winfield, where his daughter Dinah resides.
