Budget, Tree and Riverfront Talk at Tonight’s Burlington City Council Meeting

THE BURLINGTON CITY COUNCIL WILL TALK ABOUT THE BUDGET SOME MORE AT TONITE’S(MON) MEETING.

 

MEMBERS WILL ALSO CONSIDER FINAL ADOPTION OF NEW REGULATIONS IN THE TREE ORDINANCE, REQUIRING A CITY PERMIT TO TREAT FOR THE EMERALD ASH BORER AND SPECIFYING WHAT KIND OF TREATMENT MAY BE USED. THE COUNCIL WILL VOTE ON A RESOLUTION THAT WOULD AUTHORIZE THE RIVERFRONT ADVISORY COMMITTEE…ALONG WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE COUNCIL, GREATER BURLINGTON PARTNERSHIP AND A RIVERFRONT BUSINESS OWNER…TO TALK TO THE BURLINGTON-NORTHERN/SANTA FE RAILROAD ABOUT TURNING ADDITIONAL LAND SOUTH OF THE AUDITORIUM INTO PARK SPACE. AND THE COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER A LEASE AGREEMENT WITH THE BURLINGTON APARTMENTS FOR 42 PARKING SPACES IN THE LOT AT MAIN AND VALLEY. TONITE’S(MON) MEETING IS AT 6:30 AND THE PUBLIC IS WELCOME.

 

THE WEST BURLINGTON SCHOOL BOARD MEETS TONITE(MON) BEHIND A CLOSED DOOR AT 6:30, TO DISCUSS NEGOTIATING STRATEGY. THE REGULAR MEETING BEGINS AT 7 AND THE BOARD’S EXPECTED TO MAKE A FINAL DECISION ON WHETHER TO HIRE A FULL-TIME SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER, A MOVE SUPERINTENDENT DAVE SCHMITT IS RECOMMENDING AGAINST.

 

IN LEE COUNTY TONITE(MON), RESIDENTS ARE INVITED TO A TOWN MEETING IN DONNELLSON TO TALK ABOUT THE EMERALD ASH BORER THREAT…ITS POTENTIAL IMPACT…AND PLANS TO DEAL WITH THE INFESTATION. THE PUBLIC MEETING WILL BE HELD AT DONNELLSON CITY HALL ON NORTH OAK STREET AND WILL START AT 7 O’CLOCK. IT’S BEING HOSTED BY THE IOWA DNR AND “TREES FOREVER.”
