WB City Council Nixes School Officer for Now

IT LOOKS LIKE THE IDEA OF A SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PATROLLING THE HALLS IN WEST BURLINGTON IS DEAD…OR AT LEAST ON LIFE-SUPPORT.

THE CITY COUNCIL DIDN’T TAKE ANY ACTION ON THE MATTER LAST(WED) NITE…AND IN SO DOING, KILLED IT FOR NOW.   MAYOR HANS TROUSIL SAYS IT’S SIMPLY NOT FINANCIALLY FEASIBLE.   SO FOR NOW, POLICE CHIEF FRANK NEWBERRY SAYS COVERAGE WILL REMAIN STATUS QUO.
NEWBERRY ALSO TOLD THE COUNCIL THAT THE TYPICAL COST-SHARE FOR SUCH AN ARRANGEMENT IS 75 PERCENT SCHOOL AND 25 PERCENT CITY. THE WEST BURLINGTON DISTRICT IS LOOKING AT A 65-35 SPLIT, ASSUMING EVERYTHING ELSE CAN EVENTUALLY BE WORKED OUT.
