Edward Stone May Require New, Strict Dress Code

One of Burlington’s Middle Schools is looking into a standardized dress code.

Edward Stone Middle School Principal, Brian Johnson, says he wouldn’t call it a “uniform”….

“Typically a uniform would be like, Notre Dame for example,  khaki pants and a blue shirt. Where as we’re saying, you can wear khaki pants or basically any type of dress pants with a collared shirt.”

The school hasn’t made an official decision yet, and is asking for feedback from parents and people in the community through a survey. You can find it through the Burlington Community School District’s webpage by clicking on Edward Stone Middle School.

Johnson says the new dress code idea has been on their minds for a while now…

“We’ve kind of kicked this idea around for several years. We’ve actually had parents suggest it, so we’re putting it out there to see what the response is.”

According to Johnson, next Monday he’ll decide if he’s gathered enough feedback through the survey to make a decision. If most people are in favor of a standardized dress code, they will present the idea to the Burlington School Board.
