Season Over for Blackhawks; No At-Large Berth

IT’S OFFICIAL – THE SCC MEN’S BASKETBALL SEASON IS OVER.   THE NJC-DOUBLE-A ANNOUNCED ITS LIST OF NATIONAL TOURNAMENT QUALIFIERS YESTERDAY(SUN)…WHICH THIS YEAR INCLUDES FOUR AT-LARGE TEAMS…AND THE BLACKHAWKS ARE NOT ON IT. 

 

(FYI:)  THE FOUR SCHOOLS THAT WERE CHOSEN ARE NUMBER-3 COLUMBIA STATE…NUMBER-4 HARCUM…NUMBER-5 SOUTH PLAINS…AND NUMBER-8 TRINITY VALLEY.  WHEN THE REGULAR SEASON ENDED, SCC WAS RANKED NUMBER-17.   THE BLACKHAWKS ARCH-RIVAL…INDIAN HILLS OF OTTUMWA…WILL REPRESENT THIS AREA, HAVING WON THE REGION AND DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS.   THE NJCAA WILL ANNOUNCE THE PAIRINGS TODAY(MON).

  

IN WOMENS COLLEGE BASKETBALL YESTERDAY…..

NEBRASKA 72, IOWA 65 (BIG-10 TITLE GAME)

SOUTH DAKOTA 96, WESTERN ILLINOIS 94

 

IN MENS PLAY…..

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 71, WIU 50

 

IOWA STATE’S MELVIN EJIM HAS BEEN NAMED THE BIG-12 MENS BASKETBALL PLAYER-OF-THE-YEAR.

  

AND PENN STATE WON ITS FOURTH STRAIGHT BIG-10 TOURNAMENT TITLE IN WRESTLING YESTERDAY.    IOWA CAME IN SECOND, 5 ½ POINTS BEHIND.   MINNESOTA PLACED THIRD, FOLLOWED BY OHIO STATE, NEBRASKA AND ILLINOIS.   THEN IT WAS WISCONSIN, MICHIGAN, NORTHWESTERN, INDIANA, PURDUE AND MICHIGAN STATE.      THE HAWKEYES HAD ONE CHAMPION, SENIOR TONY RAMOS AT 133 POUNDS, AND FOUR SECOND PLACE FINISHERS.
