WB City Budget Hearing Tonight; Rate Up $.74

THE WEST BURLINGTON CITY COUNCIL HOLDS A HEARING ON THE BUDGET TONITE(WED), BEFORE APPROVING IT.

TYPICALLY, THERE’S NOT MUCH CONTROVERSY OVER THE CITY’S SPENDING PLAN, BUT THIS TIME THERE MAY BE A LITTLE PUSH-BACK…AS THE BUDGET PUBLISHED IN THE NEWSPAPER CONTAINS A 74-CENT PROPERTY TAX HIKE. MAYOR HANS TROUSIL…WHO DOESN’T GET TO VOTE…SAYS IT’S EITHER THAT…OR SPENDING MORE OF THE CITY’S RESERVES. ONE OTHER OPTION COULD BE THE LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX.

TONGUE-IN-CHEEK, DURING AN INTERVIEW ON KBUR MONDAY, TROUSIL SUGGESTED THE CITY COULD ASK ITS RESIDENTS TO FILL THE POTHOLES THEMSELVES, SIMILAR TO SOMETHING THAT WAS DONE IN WATERLOO.
