Clarence Edward Mumme, 82, of Burlington, died at 2:45 PM Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born December 12, 1931, in Filmore County, NE, he was the son of Arthur Henry James and Rosa Caroline Totemeier Mumme. On April 3, 1956, he married Patricia Mary Pluess in Kahoka, MO.

Clarence worked as a Process Planner for General Electric for over 30 years.

He was a 1951 graduate of New London High School and received an Associate Degree from Southeastern Community College in 1958.

He was a U.S. Marines Veteran, serving during the Korean War from April 1, 1952 until April 14, 1960.

He was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus of Abilene, Texas, and Burlington council #568.  In Abilene, Texas, he was a member of  Lion’s Founder’s Club, RSVP volunteer, and a Master Gardener, Iris and Daylily Society, and  AARP tax aide for 11 years.  In Burlington he was a member of Jr. Chamber of Commerce, he also held several offices in the area Credit Union, including Chapter 8 President. He loved working with his flower gardens, mowing and trimming our acreage. He also enjoyed working with wood, traveling all fifty States, Canada, coast to coast, including Maritime Provinces and Newfoundland; Europe, including England, Scotland, Wales, Spain, Finland, Costa Rico; Puerta Vallarta, Mexico.

Survivors include wife, Patricia, one son, Mark E. (Janet) Mumme of Leshara, NE; three daughters, Teresa M. (Bob) Staub of Danville, Tamara A. (Mark Renteria) Jacobs of Burlington, and Shelly R. (Bill) Stanford of Burlington; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; one sister, Alberta Saltzman of Mount Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, and two brothers.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Friday, March 21, 2014, at  St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Mumme will be 1:00 PM Saturday, March 22, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John’s cafeteria following burial.

Memorials have been established for Notre Dame Schools Tuition Fund and Great River Hospice.
