IOWA STATE 85, NORTH CAROLINA 83 (THE CYCLONES ADVANCE TO THE “SWEET-16” FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2000 AND WILL PLAY CONNECTICUT NEXT FRIDAY EVENING AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN IN NEW YORK.)

IOWA 87, MARIST 65 (THE LADY HAWKEYES TAKE ON LOUISVILLE TUESDAY NITE AT 8:30 IN A SECOND ROUND GAME.)

AT THE MENS COLLEGE BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL…..

ILLINOIS STATE HOSTS TEXAS A&M TONITE AT 7:05.

 

OVER THE WEEKEND…..

UNIVERSITY OF IOWA WRESTLER TONY RAMOS WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT 133 POUNDS SATURDAY NITE, BY BEATING WISCONSIN’S TYLER GRAFF 3 TO 1.  ALL TOLD, THE HAWKEYES HAD SIX ALL-AMERICANS, WITH IOWA STATE AND NORTHERN IOWA EACH SENDING THREE TO THE PODIUM.   THE HAWKEYES PLACED 4TH AS A TEAM, BEHIND PENN STATE…MINNESOTA…AND HOST OKLAHOMA STATE.   THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS’ JESSE DELGADO WON A NATIONAL TITLE AT 125 POUNDS.

 

 

AND THE INDIAN HILLS MENS BASETBALL TEAM LOST THE NJCAA, DIVISION-ONE TITLE GAME SATURDAY TO JONES COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, 87 TO 77.   MEANWHILE, THREE SCC PLAYERS HAVE BEEN NAMED TO THE ALL-REGION-11 TEAM.  JORDAN STEVENS AND WARREN JONES WERE PICKED FOR THE FIRST TEAM, WHILE TAJAY HENRY GOT AN HONORABLE MENTION.
