Robert Maynard Kerr, age 75 of Mediapolis, died Sunday March 23, 2014 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  The son of Rex and Ruby (Herr) Kerr, he was born April 1, 1938 at Newport, Iowa.  On September 27, 1959 he married Caryl Eland at Fairfield, Iowa.  He attended the MorningSunSchool.  He was a 25 year member of the Mediapolis Lions Club, a member of the Odd Fellows, and was of the Presbyterian Faith.  He worked for many years at Schrock lumber yard in Mediapolis.

 

Survivors include:  his wife of Mediapolis and  three children, Deb, Steve and Sue; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Jean Hostetter of Yarmouth and Beverly Wolfe of Davenport; one brother, Merle “Pete” Kerr of Newport; nieces and nephews

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, two sisters and one brother.

 

The funeral service will be Thursday March 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis, with Rev. Jerleen Schlesser officiating.  Interment will follow at the KossuthCemetery.  Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-7:00 p.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will meet with friends from 5-7:00 p.m.  A general memorial has been established in his name.

Mrs. M. Elizabeth “Betty” Drevland, 89, of Stronghurst, IL passed away at 2:00a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA.

She was born March 12, 1925 in Niles, Ohio the daughter of Wm. Elgar and Selina Clark Browning. She married Roy S. Drevland on December 20, 1947 in Santa Fe, NM. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2011

 

Mrs. Drevland worked as a clerk/typist at Silas – Mason in Middletown, IA and also at a real estate office in the Quad Cities. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in New London, IA and the Bethel Lutheran Church, Stronghurst, IL. She enjoyed reading and working on puzzles.

 

She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen (Jim) Joy of Belton, MO, Karen (Craig) Colby of Stronghurst, IL and Kaye (Karl) Dollmann of Olathe, KS, six grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

 

Besides her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter and one brother, Bill Browning.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 12, 2014 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Stronghurst with Rev. Terry Muller officiating. Burial will be in the Stronghurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Bethel Lutheran Church, Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab, Hospice Compassus and Great River Hospice House.
