FM City Council Agrees on Conceptual Study for “Old” 61

IT’S TAKEN SOME TIME, BUT THE FORT MADISON CITY COUNCIL HAS NOW AGREED ON A DIRECTION TO TAKE, TO BEGIN REHABBING “BUSINESS-61,” THE STRETCH THAT GOES THRU TOWN NOW THAT THE 61 BYPASS IS DONE.

CITY MANAGER BYRON SMITH SAYS THE FIRST STEP IS IMMINENT — A CONCEPTUAL STUDY, WHICH SHOULD GENERATE SOME PUBLIC INPUT…WHICH SHOULD, IN TURN, HELP DETERMINE “BUSINESS” 61′s FUTURE LOOK.

SMITH  SAYS OPINIONS ABOUT THE BYPASS ARE STILL MIXED, WITH TRUCKERS & OTHERS HAPPY TO AVOID THE OLD 61′S WINDING PATH THRU TOWN…AND LOCAL MERCHANTS DISAPPOINTED WITH THE REDUCED TRAFFIC PAST THEIR BUSINESSES.
