The only thing hurt in a backyard fire this afternoon was someones pride.

Fire crews were called to a home along Golf Course Road in Burlington at around 4:30pm. The fire was located in a backyard in a portion of their wooded area they use as a dumping ground. Homeowner Laverne Neal took the blame…

“I emptied a burning barrel this morning that I burned Saturday. It must of still had a little hot in it. I felt it though, and it didn’t feel hot.”

There were also some tires, antique tractors, and cars in the dumping area that caught fire. Captain Bollinger says they weren’t surprised to receive the call….

“We were anticipating something like this for today, being as windy as it is. Everyone gets out to do some burning on a nice day finally in Spring.”
