Burlington Council to Move Ahead with Manor Project

The Burlington City Council meets tonight(Mon) at 6:30 and will give second reading to the proposed rezoning of the old Flint Hills Manor property (at Roosevelt and Agency) from Multi-and Two-Family Residential(R-4 and R-3) to General Commercial(C-2) with a Planned Unit Development Overlay Zone.

Dial Realty of Omaha, Nebraska has named the proposed project “Burlington Crossing,” and the developer has plans for retail, senior housing and a hotel, among other things. Also up for second reading tonight(Mon) is a rezoning request for the former Perkins School (at 1621 Dodge Street), but the developer has withdrawn his request for an apartment complex, after neighbors voiced concerns. On tonight’s Consent agenda is a Resolution of Acceptance of a 493-thousand dollar federal grant for the Fire Department, and a sizeable crowd is expected to express its support for the funds, which would pay for three additional firefighters for two years.

The West Burlington School Board meets tonight(Mon) at 7 and will kick things off with a public hearing on the budget, followed by adoption. On other fronts, the Board will be asked to approve the resignation of Head Football Coach Jeff Housel, Jr. High Cheerleading Sponsor Tara Thuleen, and Second Grade Teacher and High School Play Director Tammy Allison, who’s moving to Italy.
