Brian Carter laid out his 5-year vision for Des Moines County’s secondary roads yesterday(Tues).
Included this summer is the improvement of a dangerous curve on Mediapolis Road, about two miles west of Mediapolis. Another 5 1/2 miles of Mediapolis Road, from Mediapolis to County Highway 99, will be paved, as will a 2 1/2 miles stretch of 99, from Mediapolis Road to Meeker’s Landing Road. Other roads expected to see work this construction season are Washington Road, north of Mt. Pleasant Street…Memorial Park and Plank Roads, both between Sunnyside and Roosevelt…and 140th Street, from Beaverdale Road to 190th Avenue.
Carter told County Supervisors yesterday(Tues) something they already knew — that due to a lack of funding, the work falls a little more behind every year…and then there’s all the emergency work his department has had to do since 2008, due to flooding and ice storms.
He again called for an increase in Iowa’s fuel tax.
