Burn Ban Issued for Lee County Due to Numerous Grass Fires

It was a long day for area fire fighters yesterday battling numerous grass fires. Those fires are continuing today.

Due to the number of incidents, Lee County is now under a burn ban that will take effect at 1pm today until further notice.

Yesterday the National Weather Service issued a “Red Flag Warning”, meaning that  fire weather conditions were occurring because of a combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures.

Today grass fires are continuing, so the burn ban is in place. Any violation of this order results as a simple misdemeanor.

As of right now, Des Moines County has NOT issued a burn ban.
