Co. Atty. Jackson on Sick Leave

Des Moines County Attorney Pat Jackson didn’t attend this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting…and questions about his absence have now been answered.

A story in today’s(Sat) Hawk Eye…a local newspaper…says Jackson has taken an indefinite, paid, medical leave. Reporters’ attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful, but the county auditor’s office is quoted as saying it received a letter saying that Jackson will be on medical leave until further notice and under a doctor’s care for an undetermined amount of time.

Jackson’s absence coincides with a newspaper article last week revealing the use of inaccurate numbers of prosecutions to justify the need for higher budgets in his office.

Jackson announced several months ago that he’d be retiring at the end of his current term. One of his assistants…Amy Beavers…is running for the position as a Democrat and will serve as acting County Attorney in the meantime. Republican Trent Henkelvig is also seeking the post.
