Ruth Esther Dunn, 91, of Mt.Pleasant, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Park Place, Mt.Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 28, 2014 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Deborah Stowers will officiate. Burial will be in BurgeCemetery, New London. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM on Monday at the Chapel and the family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Richard Ira Jerrel, 80, of Burlington, died at 3:20 PM Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
He was born January 30, 1934, in Burlington. On October 1, 1977, he married Ruth M. Turkington in Middletown, IA.
Rich was a route driver for Coca-Cola for 11 years. He then went to work for J.I. Case Company for 19 years and most recently for Farm King where he worked in the sporting goods (gun runner) department.
He was a graduate of Burlington High School and attended Southeastern Community College.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He was a lifetime member of the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League Detachment 616, and a member of the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. He was very active in Toys for Tots. He enjoyed Harley Davidson’s and going to the YMCA. He enjoyed going to the First Assembly of God Church, Sunnyside Baptist Church, and currently attending Parkside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; four sons, Steve Jerrel, Richard Menard of CA, Daniel Jerrel of CA, and Rusty (Regina) Ott of NE; two daughters, Annah (Doug) Tyler of AL, and Donna (Ron) Harris of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and one sister, Virginia Moorehead of TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, and one daughter, Jenny.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, April 28, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home.
The memorial service for Mr. Jerrel will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Parkside First Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Dodd officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League Detachment 616 and the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Parkside First Baptist Church following the burial.
Memorials have been established for Toys for Tots and the Veterans Memorial.
