Lightning Hits Historic MO Church

ST. FRANCISVILLE, Mo – In St. Francisville, Missouri a historic church went up in flames after lightning struck its roof and started a blaze.

WGEM in Quincy says firefighters responded to the historic Old Stone Church at around four yesterday(Sun) afternoon. Fire crews from Wayland were the first on the scene, but needed assistance and were joined by responders from nearby Alexandria and Kahoka. Many in the community said it was a deep loss to lose the building. The Old Stone Church dates back to 1853 making it the oldest recorded structure in Clark County.

 

While some items were salvaged, much of the building suffered severe damage to the roof and siding. There were no reported injuries at the scene and officially for the moment it is being ruled that a lightning strike caused the fire.
