Ralph Ernest “Ernie” Painter Jr., 85, of rural LaHarpe, IL died at 6:14PM, Friday April 25, 2014 at his home.

 

Ernie was born on July 24, 1928 in LaHarpe, the son of Ernest and Vera Gittings Painter Sr. On August 26, 1950, he married Patricia Whelan at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet, IL. Together, they had three children: Mary Ellen (stillborn) in 1952, Kathleen in 1953, and Thomas Michael in 1955.

 

Ernie was a 1946 graduate of the LaHarpe High School, where he was active in various activities and sports. In 1950 he graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. During college Ernie was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity for 4 years and also spent time judging with the University of Illinois Livestock Judging Team.

 

Mr. Painter returned home to farm with his dad until he was drafted into the United States Army on January 7, 1953. He was sent to Augusta, GA for basic training (where his daughter Kathy was born), he was then transferred to the Army Veterinary Corp as a food inspector in Rotterdam, Holland. Pat and Kathy joined him there for 9 ½ months. After his discharge, Ernie returned home and resumed farming with his dad, and raising and marketing Polled Herefords.

 

Ernie was very active in LaHarpe’s summer baseball program serving as a coach and director. He served on the LaHarpe School board, was active in the LaHarpe Lions Club and taught a GI agriculture class for 3 years. He owned and operated the LaHarpe soil testing lab for 8 years. He also worked at the Disco, IL Elevator and later owned and operated the Disco Farm Supply; selling fertilizer and other farm needs.

 

He is survived by his wife, Pat and two children, Kathleen (Randy) Faber of Sublette, IL and Dr. Tom (Laurie) Painter of Ozark, MO; four grandchildren, Brad (Cathy) Faber of Chicago, IL, Jesse (Mary) Faber of Pontiac, IL, Dr. Lorie (Kurt) Jones of Terre Haute, IN and Dave Painter of Lincoln, NE; three step-grandchildren, Andrea (Jon) Erdman of Louisville, KY, Anna McGeehan of Morristown, NJ, Doug McGeehan of Rolla, MO; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Theresa Faber of Pontiac, IL and Luke Thomas Jones of Terre Haute, IN.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter Mary Ellen.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City, IL with Father Tony Trosley officiating. Burial will follow at the LaHarpe Cemetery, where a flag presentation will be conducted by the LaHarpe American Legion. Friends may call any time after 3:00PM, Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00PM, with a prayer service beginning at 8:00PM. Larry W. Dideriksen, 71, of Burlington, died at 11:30 PM Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born June 20, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Orin Orville “Okie” and Hazel Dodd Dideriksen. On February 11, 1967, he married Mary Jane Rehman in Marion, Iowa.

 

Larry worked in the electrical department for IAAP. He then became part owner/electrical contractor of Seither & Cherry in Keokuk, Iowa. After moving back to Burlington he became co-owner/electric contractor of JD Electric. Following his retirement he became an electrical consultant for Frank Millard and Company.

 

He was a 1960 graduate of Burlington High School. He attended Southeastern Community College and Iowa State University.

 

He served in the National Guard from 1964 until 1970.

 

He was president of Iowa Chapter of NECA for several years. He was on the IBEW apprentice board. He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church, Ducks Unlimited, Knights of Columbus, and Burlington Golf Club. He was an avid hunter, golfer, bowler and fisherman. He enjoyed world wide traveling and playing bridge. He was a sports enthusiast. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

 

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; two daughters, Lisa M.(Yvette Lopez) Dideriksen of Niles, Illinois, and Amy L. Dideriksen of Orlando, Florida; one son, Eric W. (Tina) Dideriksen of Burlington; two grandchildren, Jesse (Amber) Byrne of Burlington, and Jasmine Stewart of West Burlington; two great-grandchildren, Aria Byrne of Burlington and Nartel Jennings of West Burlington; one sister, Linda (Richard) Rehman of Burlington; three brothers, Tony Dideriksen of Burlington, Bill (Marie) Dideriksen of Mediapolis, IA, and Mike (Beth) Dideriksen of Burlington; three sisters-in-laws, Kay (Larry) Conaway of Cedar Rapids, IA, Nancy (Wayne) Niles of Carman, IL, and Clare (Ralph Antonacci) Rehman of Virginia, IL; one brother-in-law, Bob (Dia) Rehman of Burlington, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Joel, and one brother, Bobby.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Dideriksen will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in St. John’s Cafeteria following the burial.

 

Memorials have been established for JTD Memorial Scholarship, Hamilton, Illinois and Notre Dame High School of Burlington.

Raymond “Ray” Koster, 76, of Laddonia, MO, died at 8:45 PM Saturday, April 26, 2014, at his home.

 

Born June 30, 1937, in Cawker City, KS, he was the son of Henry and Susan Thomas Koster. On May 6, 1961, he married Yvonne Catherine Bowman in Dallas City, Illinois.

 

Raymond worked for Champion Spark Plug in general set up for 30 years, retiring in 1992.

 

He was a 1955 graduate of Cawker City High School in Cawker City, Kansas.

 

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from September 28, 1955 until September 26, 1958. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Expert Rifleman Medal.

 

He was a member of Saint John’s Catholic Church in Laddonia, Missouri, where he was an usher and frequently a carrier of gifts. He was also a member and past President of the Eagles Club where he was a member since 1966. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the UAW Veteran Local 1237, and an Eagle Riders 150 Charter member. He was a handyman, specializing in woodworking.

 

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne of Laddonia, MO; two sons, Bill (Shannon) Koster of Rock Hills, MO and Byron (Robin) Koster of St. Peters, MO; two daughters, Marcy (Pat) Knauss of Burlington and Raylene (Rodney) McDowell of Gladstone, MO; eight grandchildren, Maggie Moore, Alex Brueck, Mikayla Field, Sean Koster, Austin Koster, Miranda Knauss, Tanner Pineiro, and Makenna McDowell; one great-granddaughter, Ony’Khah Green; four brothers, Charles (Leona) Koster of Lakewood, CO, Cecil Koster of Cawker City, KS, Robert Koster of Cawker City, KS, and Hank (Phyllis) Koster of Salina, KS; three sisters, Delores Quenzer of Wichita, KS, Marilyn (Wayne) Lingg of Alma, NE, and Janice Koster of Loveland, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Richard, Harold, and Jerome Koster, one sister Marcella Hyde, one son, Patrick Henry Koster, and one granddaughter, Abigail Rae Moore.

 

The family will receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Beinhoff Funeral Home, 208 W. Third Street, Laddonia, MO 63352.

 

Visitation will be from 1:00PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division Street Burlington, Iowa 52601.

 

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Koster will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 1, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 700 Division Street, Burlington, Iowa 52601. Rev. Father Marty Goetz will be the Celebrant and Father Bruce DeRammelaere will be the Concelebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150 following the burial.

 

Memorials have been established for St. John’s Catholic Church and St. John’s Food Pantry in Laddonia, Missouri.

Carol Diane Reyes, 58 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 2:36 pm Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. She was born December 9, 1955 at Keokuk, Iowa, a daughter of Ronald and Rovene (Walker) Cochran. On December 21, 2005, she married, Jesse B Reyes at Las Vegas, Nevada. He survives.

 

Carol was a 1974 graduate of Fort Madison High School. She attended Southeastern Community College and Western Illinois University. She was a homemaker, but also worked at various jobs in the area. She was a member of the First Christian, Church Disciples of Christ. She was a sports fan, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. When she was younger, she was a talented artist. She enjoyed gardening and shopping. Carol was a private and caring person, her husband and family were the core of her life.

 

She is survived by her husband, Jesse B. Reyes of Fort Madison, Iowa; her parents, Ronald and Rovene Cochran of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Shannon (Dave) Dannen of Raleigh, North Carolina; one brother, Robert (Marie) Cochran of Fort Madison, Iowa; four sisters-in-law: Jill (Dennis) Pirri of Fort Madison, Iowa; Grace Ramos of Dayton, Ohio; Caroline Gastelum of Fort Madison, Iowa; Lisa (Dago) Borjas of Fort Madison, Iowa; two grandchildren, Kyleigh and Brodie Dannen; four nieces, two nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and her dog, Nakita. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and one brother, Michael Cochran I.

 

Her family will greet friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. A funeral service will follow and be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the funeral home, with Reverend John Simpson, officiating. Her body will be cremated following the service. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Claypoole Cemetery, Wever, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel. Eleanor Marie Wagner Murphy, 86, of Burlington, died at GRMC Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa on Thursday, April 24, 2014.

Born on December 10, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Glen D. and Marie Eisenhart Wagner. She married Herbert E. Murphy on April 7, 1947 in Burlington, Iowa. He died on August 17, 2011.

Eleanor graduated from Burlington High School in 1945 and received her A.A. from Burlington Junior College in 1946. She worked for the Burlington Public Library, Des Moines Co. Abstract, State Farm Ins. Claim Office, Pryor, Riley, Jones & Aspelmeier Law Firm, Hawkeye Rehabilitation, Dr’s Hays, and Anderson & Calderwood. She was a member of Stars & Stripes Chapter, Daughters of American Revolution, Des Moines County Genealogical Society and AARP.

She was a member of Burlington Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Richard (Chris) Murphy of Burlington, Iowa, David (Brenda) Murphy of Burlington, Iowa and Thomas (Cindy) Murphy of West Burlington, Iowa; three granddaughters, Ann (Bill) Fort, Amy (Jim) Sterler, and Jamie Murphy; one step-grandson, Christopher Braun; six great-grandsons, Jacob (Journey Smith) Ruth, Levi (Allison Edmonds) Ruth, Izaac Ruth, Mason Fort, Benjamin Sterler and Kaleb Sterler; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Murphy; one great-great-grandson, Asa Ruth; one great-great-granddaughter, Raina Sherman; two cousins, Robert Eisenhart and Joan Simon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandparents, one step-granddaughter and four cousins.

The funeral service for Eleanor Marie Murphy will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Prugh’s Chapel. Pastor Kendall Adams will officiate. Interment will be at Shiloh Cemetery, Middletown, Iowa.
