Iowa’s Doodle 4 Google Winner a BHS Senior

doodle

Every holiday or special occasion, the search engine “Google” displays a different logo.

Since 1998 there have been more than 2,000 different doodles displayed, and each year a student in the U.S. is selected to create one. It’s a national competition titled “Doodle 4 Google”, and each state has a finalist. Iowa’s just happens to be from Burlington this year, and today two Google representatives were at BHS to make the big announcement….

If you couldn’t understand that, the winner was Amy Carlson. Students at the assembly today weren’t told before hand why they were there. Carlson spoke to us before the gathering today about it…

She plans to go to Maryland Institute College of Art and study illustration.

If Carlson wins the overall competition, Google will give her a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 Google for Education grant will be given to her school.

Mayor Shane McCampbell and Senator Tom Courtney were also there to congratulate the student.
