Patricia Rae Anderson, 65, of Burlington, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at her home in Burlington. Arrangements are pending at the Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.
Joyce Ann Elliott, age 85, of Wapello, passed away May 11, 2014. Joyce was born on March 14, 1929, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Clark and Leah Handlen Gilmore. Most of her school years were spent growing up in Morning Sun, where she graduated from High School in 1947. She met her first boyfriend Gordon (Jack) Elliott at the roller skating rink, and they were married on October 14, 1950.
Joyce settled in on the family farm where she spent many happy years growing a garden, helping with all the farm chores and raising their three sons. Joyce loved the farm and continued to farm with the help of family friend, Fred Weyrick for 17 years after the passing of her husband. Joyce enjoyed life, her friends, her butterfly tattoo, roller skating, dancing, water skiing, taking rides with Jack in their red convertible Rambler, banana cream pie, family camping, a ferry cruise and trip to Alaska, a Caribbean cruise with family, meeting her new friends at their winter home in Port Richey, Florida, shooting pool and playing cards with the ladies at Sundance, playing her organ, and most of all spending time with her family.
Joyce was a member of the Wapello United Methodist Church and her “club”, the Merrymakers.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, her Mother and Father and three siblings, Gaylord, Miriam (Sis), and Lee. Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Geneva, Ethel Mae, and Lola, and brother-in-law Danny; three sons, John (Laura) of Ames, David of Wapello, and Steven (Laurie) of Blue Grass; five grandchildren, Gregory (Tiffany) of Kansas City, Rachel (Chad) of Swan Hills, Alberta, Canada, Kate of Seattle, and Christian and Jessica of Blue Grass; three great grandchildren, Peter and William of Swan Hills and Anna of Kansas City; and her Siamese cats, Suki and Kahlo.
Please join family and friends for a celebration of Joyce’s life on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery and a fellowship luncheon will follow at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The family will also meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of tree planting with the Wapello Park Board.
Elijah Charles Serczyk, stillborn infant, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa.
He is survived by his parents, Michele Dawn Serczyk of Burlington, Iowa and Gerald Gaines of Sioux City, Iowa; maternal grandfather, Ronald Serczyk of East Chicago, Indiana; maternal grandmother, Betty Mays of West Burlington, IA; maternal grandparents, Ruth & Javier Guajardo of Burlington, IA; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Gaines of Chicago, IL; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three infant brothers, James Edward Searcy Jr., Jedadia Serczyk and Josiah Roberts; maternal grandmother, Antonette Serczyk.
Graveside committal services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. Fr. Marty Goetz will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Sunnyside St. entrance to the cemetery prior to the service. No formal visitation is planned. Condolences may be left at www.prughfuneralservice.com.
D’Niyah Angelique Noel Brider, age 2, of Burlington, Iowa, died on Saturday evening, May 10, 2014.
Born on February 17, 2012 in West Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Terelle Brider and Delanie Parker.
She is survived by her parents, Delanie and Terelle; two brothers, Savion Parker at home and Deione Brider of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, A’Miyah Brider at home and Dayanara Brider of Chicago, Illinois; maternal grandmother, Beverly Parker of Burlington, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Angela Smith of Chicago, Illinois; paternal grandfather, Ulice Brider of Chicago, Illinois; maternal great-grandfather, Edward Scott of Burlington, Iowa; paternal great-grandmother, Shelby Brider of Chicago, Illinois; many uncles, aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Carl Parker.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Prugh’s Chapel, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Mark Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. A memorial has been established in memory of D’Niyah Brider.
