Londquist Wins DMCo Treasurer’s Primary; Beavers and Henkelvig Close for County Attorney

With only 7 1/2% of the registered voters casting ballots, Des Moines County residents have chosen Janelle Londquist as the Democratic nominee for County Treasurer.

Londquist received 559 votes…or roughly 60% of the ballots cast…and Debra Moore got 369 votes…close to 40%. There were 37 write-ins on the Republican ballot, but no one has announced.

The Democratic candidate for Des Moines County Attorney…Amy Beavers…received 799 votes. Her Republican challenger in November…Trent Henkelvig…got 783 votes.

In some of the other local primaries, Democrat Ann Distelhorst received 715 votes for Supervisor; she’ll try to unseat Republican Tom Broeker in November. He got 961 GOP votes.

In the Republican primary for U-S Senate, Joni Ernst earned almost 55% of the votes in Des Moines County. Sam Clovis was second with just under 21%…Mark Jacobs came in third in the county with about 16%…Matt Whitaker received just under 7%…and Scott Schaben rounded out the field with less than 1%. (Again, those are just Des Moines County numbers.) (The winner will face Bruce Braley in November.)

In the GOP primary for U-S Congress from the 2nd District, Mariannette Miller-Meeks led in Des Moines County with a little over 60% of the votes. Mark Lofgren was second was just under 31%…and Matt Waldren pulled up the rear with less than 9%. The winner…district-wide…will face incumbent Democrat Dave Loebsack.

and the Des Moines County vote totals for Governor were as follows: on the Republican ballot, incumbent Terry Branstad got just under 82%, defeating Tea Party candidate Tom Hoefling, who received just under 18%. Democrat Jack Hatch…running unopposed…got 99% of the Des Moines County vote.
