Bees Within Stinging Distance of Playoffs; Play Again Tonight

The Burlington Bees still have a chance to make the playoffs, after beating the Quad Cities River Bandits last night 2-1 at Community Field.  

With Peoria’s loss, the Bees are now a-half-game out of second place and the second playoff spot.   The Bees and Bandits play again tonight at 6:30 in Burlington and you can hear the game on KBUR.

 

In high school soccer…The Columbus boys were eliminated from the Class 1A playoffs (in the quarterfinals) yesterday, when they lost to powerhouse Dyersville Beckman 3-0. The Wildcats end their season with an 11-5 record.   Dyersville is riding a 13-game winning streak and the Trailblazers face Mid-Prairie today at noon.

 

At the girls state tennis tournament…ND-WB’s Stephanie Wills, in singles, and Keokuk’s doubles team of Lakyn Boltz and Alexis Kemp, were all eliminated yesterday in Iowa City, Wills in the quarterfinals and Kemp and Boltz in the first round.

  

And Burlington’s Mia Ruther went 8 for 8 (including 7 singles and double and 4 RBI’s) to lead her softball team to a double-header sweep of Davenport Central yesterday, 19-0 amd 16-0.
