Judge Rules in R.U.S.S. Dispute

KBUR News has learned that Regional Utility Service Systems…RUSS, for short…has won its lawsuit against Mahaska County, which wanted to leave the organization.

The 10-county cooperative…formed in 1999 to design, build and service sewer systems in small, unincorporated communities within its boundaries…has had its problems with finances and public relations…and Mahaska had refused to pay its dues and threatened to leave the group, even though it was organized legally under a 28E agreement.

But a Mahaska County judge ruled that the agreement is binding and Mahaska must pay its share plus court costs.
