DMCo Bd. Gets Tougher with Fireworks; Resolution Work in Progress

The Des Moines County Board has put on hold a rural Burlington man’s request to set off fireworks in his Irish Ridge Road subdivision this summer.

Matt Zurmuehlen has been doing it since 2006, but last year his neighbors…the Brisseys…complained, and the Board decided it was time to look at the situation a little more closely. Supervisor Tom Broeker says it looks like Zurmuehlen is willing to compromise.   But before Broeker, Bob Beck and Jim Cary vote on the request, there are some other changes they’d like to see in the resolution. For instance, should they be allowed during an outdoor burning ban.

In other business, County Engineer Brian Carter announced that 190th Street west of Highway-61…the back road to Big Hollow…will be closed for about a month, beginning next week, for some box culvert work…..and work on the Mediapolis Road curve…west of Mediapolis…is scheduled to start after the July 4th weekend.
