As expected, Des Moines County supervisors yesterday(Tues) accepted the resignation of veteran County Attorney Pat Jackson, for medical reasons.

One of his assistants, Amy Beavers, has been serving as an Acting County Attorney since April, when Jackson first went on medical leave. Now, in the interest of fairness, the Board will post the position until July 7.  It’ll be filled by election November 4 and Beavers’ name will be on the November ballot, running as a Democrat…and voters will choose between her and Republican Trent Henkelvig.

In other business, Supervisors yesterday(Tues) swore in a new Assistant County Attorney.  Patricia Skeffington…born and raised in DeWitt…will be paid $45,000 a year to start; she replaces Jennifer Bailey, who resigned to work for the state. Skeffington will prosecute misdemeanors.
