Alma Stottmeister, Age 95 of West Burlington died Saturday 7/5/14 at the Great River Hospice House

Mr. Galen “Mike” Link, 66, of Rock Island, Illinois passed away peacefully at 2:15 PM Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Davenport Manor Care in Davenport, Iowa. He was born on April 2, 1948 in Mt. Pleasant, IA the son of Kenneth and Idaline Burford Link.

 

Mike believed life is about family and friends. He was very proud to be from a large, yet close family and loved every member deeply and unconditionally. Mike was rich in friendships. He made friends easily and kept them close to his heart, counting among them every walk of life. he did not grant friendship based on what you were, but rather who you were. If you were good to Mike and those he loved, you were his friend. He always said, “Right’s Right. Wrong’s Wrong. Fair’s Fair.” He was a simple man that believed in a simple world. He also said, “I like to have my fun” and boy, did he. He enjoyed life focusing on the good parts and making the best of all the rest. Mike is loved dearly and will be missed by a multitude of family and friends. That is what life’s about.

 

Mike is survived by two ex-wives, Linda Link and Diane Link, one son, Gerard (Kim) Link, one daughter, Jessica (Matt) Mosley and four grandchildren, Austin, Brent, Sarah, and William, one great-grandchild, Kaden, 3 brothers, Rodney (Mary) Link, Sidney (Denice) Link, Ezra (Tracey) Link, four sisters, Kennetta (Earl) Scott, Miriam (Don) Mullison, Twyla (Paul) Lingard, and Julie (Rich) Gacke, 23 nephews and nieces, 34 great nephews and nieces, and 7 great-great nephews and nieces.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Ginger and Katie Jo Link, a nephew and a great-niece.

 

Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with Paul Lingard officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery. Friends may call any time after 2:00 PM Friday, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for improvements at Manor Care. Sharon Kay Schoenewe, 66, of Burlington, died at 6:33 AM Monday, July 7, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Sharon was born January 7, 1948, in Burlington. She was the daughter of Robert and Dorothy Gibbs Curley. On June 1, 1968, she married Thomas George Schoenewe in Burlington.

 

Sharon worked for Northwestern Bell, was a cook at Burlington High School, and later worked at The Hawk Eye.

 

She was a 1966 graduate of Burlington High School.

 

She was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. She was a past Girl Scout Troop leader, and she enjoyed cooking, boating on the Mississippi River, traveling, and spending time with friends and family; especially her grandchildren.

 

Survivors include her husband, Thomas; one son, Robert (Stephanie) Schoenewe of West Burlington, one daughter, Robin (Tony) McDermott of Canton, MO, three grandchildren, Heather Schoenewe, Ryan Schoenewe, and J.T. McDermott; two step-grandchildren, Ashlee Blankenship and Truman McDermott; one step-great-grandchild, Skyler Blankenship, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The memorial service for Mrs. Schoenewe will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 11, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the service.

 

In lieu of plants and flowers, Sharon requested for memorials to be established for Great River Hospice House or her grandchildren’s education fund.
