Lee County’s Economic Development Group has compiled some local statistics from a recent breakfast it held in Ft. Madison. Questions were asked of local employers about what they’re looking for in job applicants…and on average, only about a-third of those who seek positions meet the companies’ hiring requirements. The top four skills Lee County Employers say are universally lacking in many job-seekers are communication skills such as writing, speaking & listening…motivation…problem-solving skills…and having a strong work ethic. The most frequent reason given for not hiring an applicant was his or her lack of skills. Number-2 on that list was lack of experience.
