Committee Calls for One LeeCo Seat…..at Montrose!

No action was taken, but an ad hoc committee recommended last(Tue) night that Lee County consolidate its government operations at one location.

No, not in Ft. Madison and not in Keokuk. The citizens committee is calling for just one courthouse to serve the whole county and it would be built near the Sheriff’s office & jail, just outside of Montrose. The committee says the cost would be about 8 1/2-million dollars and some of the money could be used to turn the North County Office Building in Ft. Madison into a new spot for the Health Department.

The Lee County Board of Supervisors has the final “say,” and took the report under advisement.
Lee is the only county in Iowa with two seats — one in Keokuk and the other in Ft. Madison.
