The Burlington City Council is going back to the drawing board with its proposed replica gun ordinance.
It would cover BB and pellet guns, paintball guns, and any others that look like real weapons. Mayor Shane McCampbell began his comments at Monday night’s council meeting by saying groups like the Iowa Gun Owners Association are spreading misinformation about what the City is discussing.
But one man who spoke at the public hearing says REAL guns now come in all kinds of TOY colors and Police Chief Doug Beaird explained why he feels an ordinance regulating how the toy guns are carried is needed.
The Council decided to send the proposal back for more discussion among the city and county attorneys’ offices and the police department.
