Obituaries Thursday August 7th

Michael D. Zang, 57, of West Burlington, died at 12:02 AM Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House.

 

Born May 3, 1957, in Monmouth, IL, he was the son of Larry A. and Phyllis D. Frieden Zang. In 1974 he married Lori Pfeiff. They later divorced. In 1992 he married Robin Murphy. They later divorced.

 

Michael worked as an underground and aerial cable lineman.

 

He attended West Burlington High School.

 

He loved motorcycles especially Harley Davidson’s. He enjoyed racing motorcycles and working on them.

 

Survivors include two sons, Jamie (Mandy) Zang of West Burlington, and Zeke Murphy of West Burlington; two daughters, Stephanie Royer of Burlington, and Ariella Zang of West Burlington; three grandchildren, Liliyan Zang, Sayge Zang, and Dreyton Royer; and his mother, Phyllis D. Zang of Monmouth, IL; one brother, Mark Zang of West Burlington, two sisters, Debbie (Paul) Winters of Stronghurst, IL, and Tonya (Duane) George of Burlington; his step-mother, Karen Zang of West Burlington,and seven nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his father.

 

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, August 8, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory following the visitation.

 

Memorials have been established for ASA Softball, Burlington Area YMCA All-Star Cheer Leading Program, and Great River Hospice.

Mrs. Doris Jean Duncan, 87, of Stronghurst, IL passed away at 6:12p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab, Stronghurst.

Doris was born on September 30, 1926 in Olena, IL the daughter of Charles and Ruth Jacobs Hicks. She married Robert Duncan on March 18, 1950. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1980.

Mrs. Duncan was a Stronghurst High School graduate. She sold Avon products for over 30 years.

She is survived by one son, Mike (Dianna) Duncan of Media, IL, one daughter, Sherry (Dennis) Warrington of Navarre, FL, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, one son, Mark Duncan, one sister, Ruby Poulson and two brothers, Harry and Tom Hicks.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Stronghurst Cemetery with Pastor Karna Peterson officiating. No visitation is planned.
