The man accused of shooting and killing a well-known local resident who went by the nickname “Ed Lover,” has had his bond increased to $1,000,000 cash.
38-year old Josh Royer has been formally charged with First-Degree Murder by Assistant Des Moines County Attorney Ty Rogers. “Ed Lover,” whose real name is Eddie Cooper Martin, was shot the afternoon of August 6th at the corner of Aetna and South Gunnision Streets, as he rode his bike. He was pronounced dead at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
Police arrested Royer a short time after the shooting, crediting a number of tips from neighbors, who saw his car leave the scene.
