Obituaries Monday August 25th

Jane Lewis, 92, of Burlington, died at 3:45 PM Friday, August 22, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born November 19, 1921, in Middletown, OH, she was the daughter of Herbert A. and Ruth Ferree Dennis and raised by her mother and step-father, Art Meyer. On December 29, 1941, she married Richard Alonzo Lewis in Greenville, Ohio. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2013.

 

Being an Army wife, Jane stayed at home to help raise their five children.

 

She was a member of First Methodist Church Quilters, and was an avid quilter and gardener. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren.

 

Survivors include three sons, Dick (Annie) Lewis of Niland, CA, Dennis (Clarice) Lewis of Dublin, OH, and Tom (Deb) Lewis of Topeka, KS; two daughters, Suzanne (Gary) Orton of Burlington and Jane Ann (John Leathers) Goulden of West Burlington; 16 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one sister.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

No visitation is planned.

 

The private family Graveside Committal Service for Mr. and Mrs. Lewis will be at Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Des Moines County Humane Society and PAW Animal Shelter in Fort Madison.

Generose “Jennie” Mary Stuekerjuergen Denning, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at SunnyBrook in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 28, 2014 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 27, in the Gathering Room of the church with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association and St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
