Mrs. Barbara Jean Purdy, 87, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 6:00 a.m. Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center, LaHarpe, IL.

Jon Owen Newberry, 71, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 7:20 AM Sunday, September 14, 2014 at his home. Jon was born on September 19, 1942 in Quincy, IL the son of Quentin and Marie Wolf Newberry. On January 31, 1965 he married Carolyn Hendricks in Dallas City, she survives.
He was a graduate of the Dallas City High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 until 1964. Jon worked for J.I. Case in Burlington, retiring 20 years ago.
He then worked for Apple River Chemical Plant near Niota. Jon served on the Dallas City Township Board, where he had just recently resigned, and was a member of the Dallas City American Legion. Mr. Newberry was an excellent carpenter, he liked and collected International Tractors, was a NASCAR fan, especially the Earnhardt’s, and always had to drive Chevy’s. He also Enjoyed watching television. Jon loved spending time with his grandchildren and following their activities.
Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Michele Newberry of Dallas City, one son Troy (Stacie) Newberry of Carman, IL, six grandchildren, Brandan Beach, AJ Beach, Lindsay Beach, Madison Newberry, Preston Newberry, and Lucas Newberry, one brother Terry (Becky) Newberry of Rio Vista, IL, and a sister-in-law Peggy Newberry of Dallas City.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steven Newberry.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Diane Halsey officiating. Friends may call any time after 4:00 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Dallas City Veteran’s Memorial and the Lomax Ambulance. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com.

Scott  Alan Miller, 36, of Burlington, died at 5:20 PM Thursday, September 11, 2014, at his home.

Born January 5, 1978, in Burlington, he was the son of J. Glenn and Cynthia Collins Miller.

Scott was previously employed at Fastenal in Burlington.

He was a 1996 graduate of Burlington High School.

He enjoyed reading and watching movies.  He was an avid Denver Broncos fan and Duke Blue Devils fan.

Survivors include his parents, Glenn and Cindy Miller of Burlington; two brothers, Andrew Miller of Scottsdale, AZ and Brent Miller of Burlington; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

A celebration of life for Scott will be held 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

Ronald Wayne Willson, 68, of Burlington, died at 1:40 PM Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born January 15, 1946, in Haver, MT, he was the son of Jack Burton and Daphne Ruth White Willson. In 1965 he married Joann Haeffner in Franklin, IA.  They later divorced.

 

Ron worked as a Technical Engineer in Robotics at J. I. Case Co. for over 30 years.  After he retired he drove his own semi for 10 years as an independent owner operator.

 

He graduated from Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo.

 

He enjoyed boating, the Mississippi River, camping, riding his motorcycle, and his three dogs.

 

Survivors include his partner, Renee Denning of Burlington; one son, Robin (Celisa) Willson of Dallas, TX; one brother, Richard (Wilma) Willson of New London; one sister, Jackie (Bill) Furman of Burlington; and three nephews and several cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

The memorial service for Mr. Willson will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Vandiver officiating.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the service.

 

Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and the Des Moines County Humane Society.
