New WB Public Works Complex Almost Ready for Closeup

The City of West Burlington is shooting for early next month, as a time to hold an open house for its new public works complex.

Consulting engineer Dave Stocklasa told the City Council last(Weds) night that the 3.7-million dollar project is almost finished.  The Council gave Stocklasa the go-ahead to sign a “Certificate of Substantial Completion,” for the supervising contractor.   The facility is at the northwest corner of Mt. Pleasant Street and Washington Road.

On another front, West Burlington Police Chief Frank Newberry is still in the hospital. He’s suffering from lower-body paralysis, due to a back problem, and his son Brad…the City’s Information Technology Director…says his dad’s white blood-cell count has been up lately as well.  Acting Chief (Lt.) Rich Hand says the department is organizing a golf outing for the chief’s benefit.

There is a little help on the horizon for the small department — Ed Parker has been hired as a new patrolman. Hand says he should start in mid-October.
