Busy Weekend for Animals, Kids and Marching Band Music

If you’ve nothing planned for this weekend, here are some alternatives:

Tomorrow(Sat) and Sunday the Iowa High School Rodeo Association and the Wrangler Junior High Rodeo Association will hold qualifying rodeos at the rodeo arena in Ft. Madison. Tomorrow’s(Sat) performance begins at 11am and Sunday’s gets underway at 8.

There will also be two battle-of-the-bands competitions tomorrow(Sat)…one at noon at the Ft. Madison High School Stadium and the other at 5:30 on Evans Field at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex in Mt. Pleasant. 11 marching bands will compete in Ft. Madison, 19 in Mt. Pleasant.

And speaking of music, Southeast Iowa’s own Simon Estes will sing familiar songs from Broadway and operas…as well as spirituals and inspirational songs. Estes will be joined by Mt. Pleasant native James Thompson and a number of area high school and college choirs. The free concert will start at 7 o’clock Sunday night in the Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel Auditorium.
