Weekend Accident Review

On Saturday morning, a few minutes before 8:30, 46-year old Richard Godwin of Burlington lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 34 near the Beaverdale Road overpass and crashed into the center median.

Some passing motorists saw what happened and stopped to help him out until deputies and Burlington paramedics got there. An AirEvac helicopter then flew him to Blessing Hospital in Quincy. The State Patrol and West Burlington police assisted at the scene.
A Montrose teen died late last week from injuries she sustained in a 2-vehicle collision at Highways 61 and 218 Thursday morning. The Iowa State Patrol says Morgan Westermeyer pulled out from a stop sign into the path of a van containing a Keokuk couple. Westermeyer was flown to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, where she later died. The husband and wife were taken by ambulance to Ft. Madison Hospital with less-serious injuries.
A Burlington man apparently drowned at Big Hollow Lake last Thursday. The body of 58-year old Kevin Rhodes was found in the lake Friday evening, his truck, trailer and boat lodged against the dock.
