Obituaries Tuesday September 23rd

Friedrich Wilhelm “Fritz” Hoemmen, 80, of rural Dallas City, IL passed away at 11:20 PM Sunday, September 21, 2014 at his home. He was born on November 4, 1933 in Werlte, Germany, the son of Hermann and Josefa Tepe Hoemmen. On November 15, 1958 he married Katharina “Kathy” Staggenborg in Macomb, IL.

Fritz served two years of active duty in the U.S. Army overseas before returning stateside to serve four years in the National Guard. He farmed all of his life. He loved animals, but most of all, loved his family. He was a member of the Dallas City American Legion and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City.

Survivors include his wife, seven children, William (Mindy) Hoemmen of Middletown, VA, Maria (Jonathan) Goldstein of Cincinnati, OH, Monika (Bob) Ryan of Dallas City, Ingrid (Gary) Brownlee of Ft. Madison, IA, Margaret (Pat) Bolen of Carthage, IL, Susan (Eric) Wilson of Wever, IA and Mark (Mingjie) Hoemmen of Albuquerque, NM, 14 grandchildren, Erin Hoemmen, Lindsay (Justin) Van Meeteren, Tori Hampton, Jesse Goldstein, Avi Goldstein, Ellie Ryan, Annie Ryan, Karina Brownlee, Stephanie Brownlee, Sam Newberry, Wyatt Newberry, Ryan Bolen, Matthew Wilson, and Megan Wilson, four great-grandchildren, Kalvin Pritchard, Will Pritchard, Landry Van Meeteren, and Harper Van Meeteren, and one sister, Antonia Bernardy of Springfield, IL.

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City with Father Tom Szydlic officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Gittings Mound Cemetery, rural Dallas City. Friends may call anytime after 3:00 PM Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM, followed by visitation with the family from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.
