A rural Mediapolis girl was seriously injured late yesterday(Sun) afternoon in a single-car accident on Highway 99, just north of the Mediapolis blacktop.
The 17-year old driver and only occupant of the vehicle had to be cut out of the wreckage; she was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Her name was not immediately released. Des Moines County deputies say the car was apparently headed south on 99, when the driver left the shoulder…overcorrected…lost control and entered the ditch, where the car rolled over. It happened around 4:20 yesterday(Sun) afternoon.
On Saturday, 19-year old Joe Waterman of New London and two passengers in his vehicle were injured and taken to the Henry County Health Center, when the driver apparently tried to take the turn at Oasis Avenue and 170th Street (near Winfield) a little too fast and the vehicle went out of control. Waterman was ticketed for failing to maintain control.
