City Offers Free Sandbags

The City of Burlington is offering free, used sandbags to the public.

They’re at the south end of the parking lot south of the lift station.

Just so you know, these are the same bags that were in the Hesco barriers around Memorial Auditorium during the flooding. Since they were soaked with river- and “other” water, the DNR recommends you not use the sand in sand boxes…on beaches…or in school yards.

On the other hand, the sand would be good in a flower garden…on gravel streets, alleys, parking lots and eroded areas in ditches and low-lying areas. The DNR does not recommend re-using the bags themselves, once they’ve been emptied.
