Anderson Changes Vote, Agrees to End-of-Year Election

It was a 2-2 deadlock…but Burlington City Councilwoman Becky Anderson changed her vote last(Mon) night, paving the way for a special election at the end of the year to replace Becky Shockley, and give the Council five members again.

Former Mayor John Sandell…who spearheaded a campaign to kill the proposed franchise fee…implied that if the Council decided to appoint someone on its own…he might do the same thing again.

So, the people of Burlington will decide in a special election December 30th who their fifth council member will be. City officials say the election will cost between $10,000 and $15,000, more if there’s a primary.   If more than three people file for candidacy, a primary will be held December 2nd.

The term will run for about three years.
